Thomas Lynn Wettstein
November 19, 1951 - April 21, 2021

Thomas Lynn Wettstein, age 69, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. Thomas was born in Red Oak, Iowa on November 19, 1951 to parents Bobbie Joseph Wettstein and Mary Jo Thompson.

Growing up in a military family, Tom lived in Red Oak, Iowa, Fort Carson, Colorado, and Wertheim, Germany before settling in San Antonio, Texas during his eighth-grade year. As the first class to attend Theodore Roosevelt High School all four years, he graduated in 1970. During high school, Tom was heavily involved in the JROTC program and San Juan Guard Drill Team. After high school Tom attended Texas A&M University. While at A&M, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, known for being the “Keepers of the Spirit and Guardians of Tradition.” Even after he left A&M, he kept that designation close to his heart for the rest of his life. Once an Aggie, always an Aggie.

On June 7, 1974 Tom graduated from the San Antonio Police Academy. He dedicated 28 years to the San Antonio Police Department serving in the Patrol and Traffic Divisions, Traffic Investigation Unit, and finished out his career at Growden Pound. Outside the department, he was an active member of the Texas Association of Accident Reconstruction Specialists and a certified Texas Commission on Law Enforcement instructor.

Starting with family road trips with his grandparents as a kid, Tom always loved traveling to different states and national parks to camp and spend time in nature. He also enjoyed collecting and building model railroad trains and woodworking. After retirement he made the decision to buy a Can-Am Spyder and thoroughly loved riding through the Texas countryside with his buddies. He even took up fishing as of late. One thing can be said, if Tom became passionate about something he gave it his all and made the best of it.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Bobbie and Mary Wettstein. He is survived by his sister Laurie and husband Thomas Landers; his daughter Heather and husband James Kahl; his step-daughter Destiny White; his nephews and niece Andrew Landers, Anne Sherbatuk, Timothy Landers, and Matthew Landers.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for a visitation on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
