George Elliott Crist
July 5, 1922 - November 29, 2021

George Elliott Crist, age 99, passed away peacefully on November 29. 2021. George was born to American expatriates Donald and Mary Crist in Tampico, Mexico on July 5, 1922.  He joined older brother Don and, together the family, followed assignments with Humble Oil and Refining Company in Ingleside, Houston and Baytown, Texas.  After receiving an engineering degree from Texas A&M University in 1943, George deployed to North Africa, and was later transferred to the European Theatre and the Philippines during WWII.

Prior to deployment, he married Lillyne Francis Maroney, whom he had known since childhood.  They spent many happy years raising their three children, Candy Crist (Steve), Connie Crist and George, Jr. (Kathy), all of whom survive him.   George was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Company immediately after the War and enjoyed applying his engineering talents during his 42 years there, with assignments in Baytown, Cuba, the Netherlands, Baton Rouge and Houston.

George married Glenna Brannigan in 1982 and gained two beloved step daughters, Beth Murphy '86 (Charlie) and Megan Horvat (Norbert). He and Glenna traveled the globe for over 30 years.  They also enjoyed their time playing tennis together and creating lasting memories for their 13 grandchildren (Elliott '07, Susan '07, Colton '12, Hannah '17)and 5 great grandchildren.

A true member of the Greatest Generation, George was a magnificent father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, soldier, Aggie, Exxon executive, and world traveler.  He was known for his terrible puns, his love of education, engineering, golf. tennis, painting, gardening and reading.  Most of all he loved his family, and for this we are both lucky and eternally grateful.

In honor of his memory the family asks that contributions be made to the Texas A&M Foundation Corps of Cadets General Scholarship Fund in Memory of George Crist (401 George Bush Dr. College Station, Tx. 77840) or Houston Hospice (HoustonHospice.org).
