June 27, 1952 - November 23, 2021

Forrest Alan Futrell, 69, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on November 23, 2021 from Lewy body dementia.

Alan was born in Dumas, Texas on June 27, 1952. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1974, and worked in the cattle industry for several years. Alan graduated from St Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence and was licensed to practice in the State Courts of Texas and New Mexico. He was also admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Western Districts of Texas, and the District of New Mexico. Alan’s practice focused on State and Federal Criminal Defense Law, specializing in Death Penalty cases. He served the Texas A&M Bar Association as a Director and later as the Secretary.

Alan was also a diehard Aggie and supported A&M in many ways, including serving as a Class Agent for his A&M Class of 1974 from 2009-2014. In this role he was instrumental in increasing the contact roles (emails/addresses/phone numbers) for the class, and bring the process into the 21st Century. He loved Aggie football, Ring Day, anything Aggie and visiting the campus.

Alan attended Northern Hills United Methodist Church and taught a large adult Sunday School Class for many years. He was a wood worker in his spare time and made beautiful furniture.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Weston ‘49 and Texie LaVern Giles Futrell.

Alan is survived by his wife, Donna; two stepsons, Timothy and Kevin Edwards. Timothy and his wife Candice Edwards, have two children, Dylan Edwards and Kymberli Edwards. Kymberli and her husband Anthony Foster have two children, Bentley and Harper. Kevin Edwards and wife have three children, Khyla Rose, Kinsley and Avery Simmons. Avery and his wife, Cassy, have a daughter, Emory.

Alan is also survived by his two brothers: Kurt Futrell in Jersey Village, TX. Brent Futrell ’76 and wife Sabra in Amarillo, TX and their four children, Stefani and husband Casey Cook and children Hadlee and Cade; Lisa and husband Toby Long and their children, Hope and Hunter; Nathan and wife Elaine Futrell and their children, Clara and Julia; Tim Futrell and his wife Iltve Portales and their daughter Isabella.

In addition, Alan is survived by his Aunt Carol Carruth and her husband Douglas and numerous cousins.

The burial for Alan is the day before the service, on December 10, 2021 at Aggie Field of Honor & Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 am in College Station, TX. It is an open service for attendance. The Celebration of Life service will be held on December 11, 2021 at 9:30am at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX.
