Cecil Harvey Carr, Jr.
September 13, 1927 - May 22, 2021

Midland resident, Cecil Harvey Carr Jr., 93 died May 22, 2021 with his beloved family at his side.

Harvey was born on September 13, 1927 in Tyler, Texas to Dorothy Francis Henderson and Cecil Harvey Carr, Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents and his half-sister, Brooksie Carr Randall, and wife Mary Ann Thompson Carr.

As soon as he was old enough, Harvey enlisted in The U.S. Navy to serve in WW2 stationed at Pearl Harbor as a ship’s serviceman L Third class. Always a little quiet about his time at Pearl Harbor, he told his grandchildren he oversaw peeling potatoes.

Upon his honorable discharge on August 8, 1946, he enrolled at Texas A&M University to study petroleum engineering, graduating in 1950. At a college canasta party, he met Mary Ann Thompson. They married on January 18, 1953.

They moved to Midland in 1954 with their infant daughter Sara where Mary Ann and Harvey had two more daughters Susie, and Terri. Harvey perused his career in petroleum engineering while Mary Ann enjoyed a successful career as a realtor. Mary Ann passed away on October 15, 1976.

Harvey married on July 9, 1977 to Betty J’Nell Fowler Baker. Harvey is survived by J’Nell and her three children: Cindy Baker Miller (Bob), Hank Baker (Nikki), and Susan Winsor (Mark).

Harvey retired from Southland Royalty as district manager in 1985. He spent his retirement happily with his family close by and going to his downtown office daily until just a few days before his decline.

Harvey is survived by his wife, J’Nell Carr, as well as his daughters, Sara Newsom '75 (Len), Susie Chandler (Mark), and Terri Carr (Jim Rawley), and his stepchildren Cindy Baker Miller (Bob), Hank Baker (Nikki), and Susan Baker Winsor '87 (Mark).

He is cherished by his twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: James David Newsom (Laura and their daughter, Anna), Marianne Newsom (Max and their son, Ardus), Kathryn Chandler (Ronn), Laura Maiorino (Brian), Jill Wickremasinghe (Charlie and their daughter, Manori), Scott Miller (Nancy and their children Helen and Noah), Will Miller (Lissa and their children David, Logan, and Anneliese), William Baker '15, Ashton Byrd, Blake Byrd, Lindsay Docken '22, and Alexandra Docken.

The family would like to thank Home Health of Texas and Hospice of Midland and the exceptional care given to Harvey by his caregivers: Rowdy Arnold, Tina Callaway, Eniola Odeneye, and Brad Henserling. Harvey will be laid to rest at a private family service.
