Roy Stanley "Skip" Skinner
August 19, 1940 - October 21, 2021

Roy Stanley “Skip” Skinner of Houston, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the age of 81.

Skip, the son and only child of Scott Skinner and Lillian Roberts, was born onto this earth on August 19, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He remained in Texas throughout his life having lived in Rockport, San Antonio, Bryan/College Station and Houston. Skip attended Texas A&M University where he was in the Corps. He was an excellent salesman, an entrepreneur and started his own fragrance company, Fragrand LTD, where he developed a beautiful perfume called AL DI LA’. After 13 years, Skip learned he was a great salesman and product marketer, but he was also a really lousy businessman. So, he closed his company, and went to work for Mac Haik auto dealerships as their advertising manager/commercial writer/producer and became the voice of Mac Haik for many years.

He coached and managed baseball at Memorial Ashford Little League and helped grow the organization and served on the board for many years. Not knowing a lot about baseball, he bought two books about it, and seven years later, he had managed one third place team, two second place teams, and FOUR championship teams. When his hallway was finally filled with team pictures and plaques, Skip realized he finally had had his own Little League career.

Skip loved music and movies, and could, and would, quote nearly all of the lines from his favorite ones... He also loved quotations, if they had truth or humor in them. Skip was a night owl often found sitting on the porch greeting neighbors, friends and the local law officers and firefighters late into the evening offering coffee, sandwiches and amazing stories to pass the time. He was a huge supporter of law enforcement, an avid traveler (most often by car) and a board member of the Ashford Forest HOA.

Dogs were always a big part of Skip’s life. He loved Charlie Brown, Taco, Sugar and Honey and they all kept him company on his patio. He also loved when his “grandogs” came to visit. Skip made lots of donations to local rescue groups and loved helping out all animals.

Skip never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back, literally. He was a kind, caring, creative and welcoming soul. He was loved by family and friends alike and will be missed.

Skip is preceded in death by his parents Scott Skinner & Lillian Roberts. Skip is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; children, Dawn Skinner, Sherri '84 (Tom) Scheliga, Bobby (Tricia) Skinner; and 4 grandchildren, Nicole, Tyler, Jacob and Colton.

The celebration of life service will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 30th of October, at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079. A Reception will follow at La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, 14759 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079.

Memorial donations may be made in Skip’s honor to CAPS - Citizens for Animal Protection, www.caps4pets.org.
