Don Douglas (Doug) Householder
July 07, 1945 - October 23, 2021

Don Douglas (Doug) Householder, 76, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, from complications due to COVID.

He was a 1963 graduate of New Lexington (Ohio) High School where he was president of his senior class and his FFA chapter, attaining the FFA degree of State Farmer.

At The Ohio State University where he graduated in 1967, he was chancellor of Alpha Zeta Fraternity, president of the Saddle and Sirloin Club, Towers Honorary and was named Outstanding Senior in the College of Agriculture.

Doug attended and received both his masters and Ph.D. degrees in animal science from Texas A&M University, remaining in that department where he served as an extension professor and horse specialist for 30 years.

He judged horse shows both nationally and internationally, holding "cards" from five major breed associations. In addition, Doug was a co-founder of the popular Groom Elite Program for the race horse industry, and later a founder of the rapidly growing Stock Horse of Texas Association.

He was a previous member of the Central Baptist Church and the Cowboy Fellowship of Aggieland, both of College Station, Texas. Most recently, he became a proud member of the Parker County Cowboy Church in the Weatherford, Texas area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite and Dorwin Householder, of Junction City, Ohio; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Maurice and Tom Gibbs, of College Station, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Jack Moore, of Somerset, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Gibbs) Householder, and daughter, Dustie Householder, both of Weatherford, Texas; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete and Colette Gibbs; and a nephew, Tyler Gibbs, all of College Station, Texas; a sister, Donna Moore, of Somerset, Ohio; a brother, Dean Householder '79 (Libby Elwood), of Indian Lake, Ohio; a niece, Stori Atchison, of Morriston, Florida; a nephew, Sage Householder (Keelia), of Pickerington, Ohio; and five great nephews, Chance, Peyton, Clay, Westin and Caycen of Ohio and Florida.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in both College Station, Texas, and Somerset, Ohio.
