Melinda Jane Jordan
October 28, 1956 - September 6, 2021

Memorial services for Melinda Anderson Jordan, 64, of Gilmer, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 11, in the chapel of Croley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 AM.

Melinda was born October 28, 1956, in Gilmer, Texas to Gerald and Joyce Arnold Anderson and passed away September 6, 2021. She was a life-long resident of the Concord community. She began school at Gilmer Elementary but graduated from Ore City High School where her parents were teaching and coaching. Her love of animals and nature led her to Texas A&M University where she earned a degree in wildlife and fishier science. In her younger life, she worked as a Texas park ranger and in forestry. One of the greatest joys of Melinda’s life was raising Beefmaster cattle, most of which she called by name. She often took in stray animals and nursed them back to health. They quickly became part of the family. She enjoyed photographing life on the farm and sharing it with others. Melinda also enjoyed many adventures “junkin” with her sister-in-law, Mable Jordan and beloved friends. She loved living on the old home place where she grew up until her health declined due to Parkinson’s Disease. She spent the last several months in a nursing home and passed from this life surrounded by loved ones.

Melinda is survived by her daughter, Dr. Maura Holcomb '07 of Boise, Idaho; Murray Jordan, whom she was married to for 29 years; sister-in-law, Barbara Anderson of Tyler; nephew, Patrick Anderson of Tyler; niece, Diana Anderson Tyler, husband Ben and great nephew, Isaiah of Bulverde, Texas; cousin, Scott Hunt, wife Marcie of Gilmer; cousin, Dana Hunt Morgan, husband Brent and children, Collin and Kathryn of Palestine.

Melinda is proceeded in death by her grandparents, Hollis and Irene Arnold; parents, Gerald and Joyce Anderson; and brother, Dr. Mitchell Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, you may honor Melinda by making donations to animal shelters or Traditions Hospice of Longview.
