November 24, 1924 - October 2, 2021

Roy Reaves Die passed away on October 2, 2021. He was born November 24, 1924 in Merryville, Louisiana to Elias McCune Die and Opal Reaves Die.

Roy attended elementary and secondary schools in various Texas towns. He graduated from Olney High School (in Olney Texas) in May 1942 where he served as Senior Class President and Student Body Class President. Roy entered Texas A & M in June of 1942 and volunteered U. S. Army in May 1943. He served in the European Theatre of Operations in five battle campaigns with the 1277 Engineering Combat Battalion. He received a Battlefield Promotion to 2nd Lieutenant in 1944. In 1946 he returned to Texas A & M where he graduated in January 1948 as a Mechanical Engineer.

In December of 1946 Roy married Evelyn Ruth Perkins, which was, in Roy’s words, “The best thing that ever happened to me.”

Roy began a career with Humble Oil & Refining Company in January 1948 as a Jr. Petroleum Engineer. He obtained a master’s degree in Reservoir Engineering, advanced to middle management, and obtained an Executive Program in Management degree from Columbia University. He served in London and in Exxon headquarters in New York as Deputy Manager Worldwide Gas Operations. He returned to Exxon Pipeline Co. as Director and Vice President in charge of Operations. Roy retired from Exxon in 1979 to become President and CEO of Plantation Pipeline Co. retiring from Plantation in 1987. Roy served as Director of seven different companies.

Roy was raised as a Methodist. He joined First Baptist Corpus Christi at the death of his child Christy in 1958. He attended Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston where his children were baptized. While working in New York, he attended Wilton Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon. Upon returning to Houston he joined Memorial Drive Baptist. He taught Men’s Bible classes, served on Finance, Building, and Pastoral search committees. In Atlanta he was active in Second – Ponce De Leon Baptist Church where he served as Chairman Finance Committee, Deacon’s Committee, and New Building Committee. In the late 90’s he moved to Georgetown, Texas, became active in First Baptist Church Georgetown where he served as Chairman Finance Committee and as Chairman on Deacons. Roy was named Deacon Emeritus.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eloise; and his first daughter, Christy Ann Die. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Perkins Die; son, Roy Conlin Die and wife, Susan; grandson, James Robert Die, and wife, Leah; great grandchild, Olivia; granddaughter, Rachael Die Montenegro and husband, Greg; daughter, Lynn Die Cunningham '80, and husband, David '79; grandson, Zachary Reaves Cunningham '08, and wife, Holly '09; great grandchildren, Ellie, Hope, and Luke; grandson, Clayton David Cunningham and wife, Rebecca.
