Homer B. Johnson passed away March 17, at the age of 93. Homer was born November 28, 1927. He made an impact in everything he did and touched a lot of people’s lives along the way. Homer was an inspiration to everyone he met and a great storyteller.

Homer graduated from Garland High School in 1945. He attended Texas A&M University and University of North Texas on a football scholarship. While at UNT Homer received his bachelor’s degree and then his master’s degree from East Texas State University.

Homer went to work for Garland ISD in 1948 at the age of 20, where he was an assistant football coach. Homer always supported a well-rounded athletic program. He believed every student should participate in some sort of intramural program because athletics in our society provided one of the finest ways in which young people develop into responsible men and women. Homer retired in 2016 after 68 years with Garland ISD.

Homer was married to his lovely wife, Billie Johnson, in 1951. They were together for 57 years before her passing in 2008.
