Michael Allen Nicholson
May 8, 1978 - September 24, 2021

Michael Allen Nicholson, 43, of Melissa, Texas, passed away September 24, 2021 in McKinney, Texas. He was born in 1978 to Robert C. & MaryAnn (Schulz) Nicholson in Cincinnati, Ohio. Michael lived a life full of love, laughter, and service to others. Michael graduated from Grapevine High School (1997), and Texas A&M University in 2001, where he was a member of Singing Cadets. He married Monica Grimes on November 20, 2016, and had their son, Cooper John-Robert Nicholson in 2018.

Michael founded and ran North Star Aquatic Safety Instruction in 2014, with nearly 20 years in the aquatics industry. He worked for InControl Water Systems. Michael loved being in the water, a joy which began at an early age in the waters off San Juan, Puerto Rico. He became a lifeguard at the age of 16 with his first job. His passion was safeguarding others and helping them learn how to swim. He was the leading Red Cross training instructor in North Texas and helped train more than 2000 lifeguards and instructors. When not in the water, Michael loved spending time with his family, reading, and traveling.

Michael is survived by his wife, Monica Grimes Nicholson of Melissa, Texas; stepdaughter, Katie Parchman; son, Cooper Nicholson; mother, MaryAnn Nicholson of Colleyville, Texas; brother, Mark (Gina) Nicholson of Colleyville, Texas; sister, Susan (Bryan) Sheehey of Trophy Club, Texas; and grandfather, G. Norman Nicholson of Findlay, Ohio; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Nicholson; grandmother, Jane Mosher Nicholson; and grandmother, Margaret Schulz Thompson.

Mike will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Cottonwood Creek Church, 1015 Sam Rayburn Tollway in Allen, Texas. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Colleyville, Texas.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Baylor Scott & White Hospital McKinney for their efforts and care provided to the Nicholson Family.
