Andrew C. Elliott Jr.
December 7, 1940 – September 17, 2021

Andrew C. Elliott, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on September 17, 2021. A memorial service in his honor will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church at 7127 Bee Cave Road, Austin, Texas. The church asks that all attendees please wear a mask to comply with COVID-19 protocols.

Andy, affectionately known as ACE, was born to Andrew C. Elliott, Sr. and Virginia Manahan Elliott in Meridian, Mississippi, on December 7, 1940. A year later, his father was called to duty to defend his country, and Andy Jr. and Virginia spent time in Dallas and Houston for the duration of the Second World War. When Andy Sr., a petroleum geologist, returned home from Europe, the family first lived in Houston and then moved to Midland where Andy Jr. grew up and enjoyed all the adventures that a young boy can have in West Texas--hunting, running cows, driving fast cars, and fishing. After he graduated from Midland High School, he attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. His long and storied banking career began in Midland with Midland National Bank. Then he moved to Houston to work for Texas Commerce Bank. In Houston, he met the love of his life and his wife of 38 years, Barbara Haldeman. They married in 1969. After a brief stop in Bryan, where their oldest daughter, Ginny, was born in 1971, they moved to Austin to make the small university town their home--even though his blood ran maroon. He loved being the loud and proud Aggie in the Longhorn town.

Andy and Barbara welcomed their second daughter, Shannon, in 1973. Andy Elliott was known to many as the conservative, small-town banker who loved his colleagues. He was a fair, honest businessman with a sharp acumen and an inspiring, no nonsense leader. His career in Austin began at American Bank. As the years went by, he journeyed through many other Austin banks, including Texas State Bank and Republic Bank. After 20 years and seeing NationsBank through its final merger, he retired from Bank of America as the Regional Executive. In addition to his banking career, he sat on many boards and was very active in both the Midland and Austin communities. Just to highlight a few, he worked with the Austin ISD Foundation, the Seton Fund, the Fasken Foundation, and the RAM Foundation. He loved Texas A&M University. He was a member of the Former Students Board and the Evans Library Board. He loved cheering for the Fightin’ Texas Aggies. He had an acute love of country and a strong sense of patriotism.

Most importantly, Andy adored spending time with his family and his beloved wife, Barbara. He loved supporting the Westlake Chaparrals, piddling at the lakehouse at Lake LBJ, and vacationing at South Padre Island. He also had a love of the outdoors--training his Labrador retrievers, hunting ducks at St. Charles Bay Club and deer in Sierra Blanca and fishing with his buddies. Even though both daughters chose to attend Texas University (as it was always known to him), he loved having them in town, encouraged their education, and was proud that both became teachers, even donating money and boxes of pencils to their classrooms through the years. Andy was a loyal friend and a mentor to many. One of his favorite roles to play was that of grandfather to his four grandchildren. When people were in his company, he made them feel valued; he listened intently; and he offered sage advice.

Andy was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Haldeman Elliott and his parents Virginia and Andrew C. Elliott, Sr.. He is survived by his daughter, Ginny, her husband Scott Wenger, and their children, Luke and Adam of Southlake, Texas; his daughter, Shannon, her husband Jason Harvey, and their children, Ross and Elizabeth of Austin; and his brother, Bob Elliott, and his wife Stephanie of Dallas. Andy will be missed by many family members and friends.
