John R. Wise
April 02, 1944 - July 18, 2021

John R. Wise, 77, passed away July 18, 2021, in Newton, Kansas at age 77.

He was born in the Panama Canal Zone as an only child to parents from Indiana, and graduated from Balboa High School. He earned his B.S. at Texas A & M and M.S. at University of Texas in Civil Engineering, with specialty in geotechnical and dam and foundation designs.

John retired in 2003 after 33 years with the Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, where he met his wife of 49 years.

He also served his Country with distinction in the US Army Reserves, retiring in 2000 as a Colonel and Deputy Commander of the 420th Engineer Brigade in Bryan, Texas.

In 2013, he and his wife Susan moved to Kansas to live near her family. In Newton John was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, sang in the choir, and served on committees for St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Private services will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021.

A memorial has been established with the Fisher House foundation, contributions may be sent to the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton, KS.
