September 15, 1936 - September 7, 2021 (age 84)

Gus William Kunath, III was born September 15, 1936 in Smithville, Texas, to Gus William Kunath, Jr. and Ida Lee Barrett Kunath. Gus passed away on September 7, 2021 at UAB in Birmingham, AL.

He lived in Montevallo, Alabama. He was a father, grandfather, and a great friend to many as well as a best friend and companion to Sandra Holt. He was a lover of books, history, a chemist, outdoorsman and a sailor.

He loved the outdoors and was a member of the Suttle Hilton Hunting Club and the Fairhope Yacht Club. A graduate of Texas A&M University, class of ’58, Gus was in the Corps of Cadets. He loved his Aggie Football.

Preceded in death by his parents Gus William Kunath, Jr. and Ida Lee Barrett Kunath, daughter Blair Crawford Kunath.

He is survived by daughter; Jennifer Barrett Kunath-Bowling; Grandchildren Barrett Lorrae Bowling, Harper Barnett Bowling, Crawford Elizabeth Shanks and Brittney Lillian Henderson.

Celebration of life gatherings will be held by family and close friends in some of his most favorite places. He will have memorialization marker at the Alabama National Cemetery.
