Thomas Henry Gries
August 18, 1964 - August 20, 2021

Thomas Henry Gries, 57, of Katy, Texas died peacefully at home on August 20, 2021. He was preceded in death by his mother Martha Ann (Arledge) Gries of Ozona and his brother George Edward Gries of Pandale. Thomas is survived by his father Terry Henry Gries of Ozona; brother, Brian L. Gries of Pearland, Texas; son Jacob Arledge Gries and his wife, Kaitlyn, currently of Irving, Texas; and daughters Rachel Alexandra Gries, a Graduate Assistant Coach at Gardner Webb in North Carolina and Sarah Jayne Gries, an undergraduate student at the University of North Texas.

Born August 18, 1964 in Zeist, The Netherlands when his father was stationed at nearby Soesterberg Air Base, Thomas was immediately taken under the wings of his older brothers George and Brian. Returning to Ozona, Texas in 1972 on their father’s retirement from the Air Force, the foursome (father included) took up working on the family ranch established by the boys’ grandfather, Elmo Arledge. The boys had many adventures on the ranch and developed an everlasting affinity for the ranch, the work and the grandeur of West Texas. Although Thomas didn’t get the opportunity to return to the ranch fulltime as was his life plan, he did enjoy managing hunting leases with his brothers George and Brian on what is now the Gries Ranch. Thomas did take many opportunities to return to the Gries Ranch including bringing his children and teaching them the skills that a West Texas rancher should have.

Thomas attended Texas A&M University (TAMU) receiving Bachelor’s degrees in both Environmental Design (1986) and Building Construction (1988). Following his time at TAMU, Thomas relocated to the Houston, Texas area where he worked as a Project Manager in the construction industry. The work that Thomas was involved in included the building of residential and commercial properties as well as public schools. He has left a legacy in his work there.

Thomas will be remembered as a man with a deep passion and commitment to his family and friends, especially his children. Thomas was a dedicated father and worked diligently to pass on to his children the values he learned from his parents about hard work and honesty. Thomas was a faithful friend and will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Kerbow Funeral Home in Ozona, Texas. A simple graveside service at 11am on Saturday, August 28, 2021 is planned at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ozona, Texas.
