Terri Ann (Osterman) Alexander
March 10, 1969 - September 5, 2021
Terri Ann (Osterman) Alexander of Humble, Texas passed away on September 5, 2021, at the age of 52. She was born March 10, 1969, in Kingston, New York to two incredible parents, Richard and Patricia Osterman.
She grew up in Austin, Texas, the "Live Music Capital of the World," where she discovered her love for music and concerts. Growing up she enjoyed going to see her favorite bands perform, but none more than her all-time favorite band, U2, who she has seen perform at least 10 times. This does not include the many, many U2 cover bands she took her friends and family to see. One of her favorite experiences was having the opportunity to meet Bono in person while working at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin. Terri bonded with friends and family through her love of music and imparted this same love to her children. On both her best and worst days she could be found singing and dancing her heart out.
Many aspects of Terri’s childhood helped shape the woman she grew into, including her interests, the obstacles she overcame, and her faith. Her love of baking and cooking came from her Mom with whom she spent many nights and weekends in the kitchen. Over the years she began experimenting with recipes and always added a heaping portion of love to the food she shared with others. She will always be remembered for her delectable chocolate chip cookies, cheesecake, and chicken parmesan. Her love of being physically active began with early morning runs with her dad before he went to work. At an early age, she began playing tennis, which she was later able to share with her husband and friends in tennis leagues. She imparted her active lifestyle to her children and supported them through their many endeavors. The children had no bigger fan than Terri and she will always be remembered as their loudest cheerleader and biggest supporter. Her love of fashion was sparked by her grandmother who was a talented seamstress and taught her how to sew. This allowed her to make her own clothes and ignited her own signature fashion sense that she expressed as a model for a number of years. She will always be remembered as the woman who was the best dressed in every room she would walk into on the highest heels. Her love for traveling began at a young age through family trips to Hawaii, Florida, and New York. She was able to share this love with friends through trips to Ireland, Burma, and Israel. She was also able to share this love with her family and when Michael’s job offered the opportunity, they chose adventure and moved to Thailand. While exploring Thailand, they also went on trips to Greece, New Zealand, and Cambodia. She will always be remembered for the joy and laughter she brought to every trip and for her amazing dance moves in their family travel music videos.
Terri’s life was filled with so much joy, but also many obstacles and each one she met head-on. She will always be remembered for teaching others that while life is hard, everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, you can always benefit from a change in perspective, and faith and love will carry you through everything. She was raised in a very happy and loving Catholic home, which laid the foundation for her strong faith in Christ. Her beliefs were her backbone that sustained her through all of life’s twists and turns. Over the years her faith grew, providing her peace and comfort during her journey battling cancer. She will always be remembered for the final lesson she imparted on her friends and family; the importance of having faith over fear, best exemplified in the song “Fear is a Liar” by Zach Williams.
No matter whether someone knew her as a daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, best friend, or just a member of the community she was always described the same way. Terri was a kind soul with a heart for others who always put everyone else first. She showed her love and affection for others through action, not just words, most often in the form of thoughtful gifts. She had a quiet strength about her with a keen perception of peoples’ thoughts and feelings. Her loving presence filled every space she entered into with her warm heart, caring embrace, and affectionate smile. This was especially felt in her home where everyone knew they would be welcomed in with open arms as a member of the family and leave with a full belly. She was someone who could always be depended upon to cross any distance, whether you needed a listening ear, the perfect advice, or a big hug. She was an incredibly compassionate woman who left an imprint on the hearts of everyone she met.
She was a 1987 graduate of Westwood High School and a 1991 graduate of Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a homemaker, an HR professional, and an entrepreneur, having many different jobs over the course of her life, all impacted by her passions. She found a way to make a job out of her love for make-up artistry, jewelry making, flower arranging, and so much more. Even the passions she that did not turn into a career, she shared with others. This included photography, interior design, and holiday decorating, the best was exemplified through her favorite holiday, Christmas! If you did not get the pleasure of experiencing Terri’s home at Christmas, it was a magical sight to see. Her home was always turned into a winter wonderland. Everywhere she went her group of friends grew, as did the number of animals she had. She will be missed by her dogs because of the number of treats she gave them; by her friends because of the sisterhood she created; by her family because of the constant positive support she shared; by her husband and children because of the strength she provided; and by all because of the love she shared, but she will live on forever in all of the lives she touched both directly and indirectly.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Osterman.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Alexander '90; father and stepmother, Richard and JoAnna Osterman; son, Ross Alexander '18; daughters, Victoria Alexander '19 and Alyssa Alexander; brother, Gregory Osterman; mother-in-law, Mrs. Bobby Joe (Mary Jane) Alexander; sister-in-law Melinda Alexander and husband Kurt Miyajima; brother-in-law, Davin Alexander and wife Amy; nieces, Elayna Osterman, Julia Osterman, Avery Alexander, and Elizabeth Katherine Alexander; and nephew Joshua Osterman.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 9th, 1:00 PM, at St. Martha Catholic Church, 4301 Woodridge Pkwy, Porter, Texas with Rev. Msgr. Jack Carroll, celebrant. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 10th, 10:00 AM in Pennington Memorial Chapel, 323 N. Comanche, San Marcos, Texas and private burial at Kyle Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Terri Alexander, contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center; please designate gifts at the family request to: Non-Small Cell Lung cancer research; or to Camp Kesem, an organization that supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer; please designate gifts at the family request to: Camp Kesem at Texas A&M University.
