November 26, 1932 ~ August 21, 2021 (age 88)

A Memorial Service for Dr. Josiah Wistar Worthington, Jr. PhD, 88, a research horticulturist, who died on Saturday, August 21, 2021, will be held at the First Christian Church of Stephenville, on September 1, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. The interment of cremains will be at West End Cemetery.

Josiah was born in Brownsville, Texas, on November 26, 1932, to Josiah Wistar and Bernice (Loomis) Worthington, Sr. He married Mary Lyle Dew on December 27, 1957, in Brownsville, Texas.

He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.) He was a member of the Stephenville Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite of Dallas. Prior to retirement, he worked for the Texas A & M University Experiment Station (a branch of the Texas A & M University now named Agri-life). He was also formerly a Captain in the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Worthington of Stephenville, Texas; children, Carl Worthington '91 and wife, Julie, of Stephenville, Texas, and Sarah Catherine Worthington of Stephenville, Texas; granddaughter, Lorin Taylor Worthington Kline and husband, Dustin of Bynum, Texas; his sister, Frances Lipe of Boerne, Texas; his brother, Henry Wilson Worthington and wife, Sandy, of Carefree, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Dana Stewart of Boerne, Texas, Helen Eisaman of Kerrville, Texas, Jan Cook of Kerrville, Texas, and Susan Hale of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fayette Worthington.
