Gilbert V. Chambers
January 27, 1929 - July 19, 2021

Gilbert V. Chambers was born in Houston, Texas on January 27, 1929 to Lillie Heisler and William V. Chambers. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston. He then enrolled in Texas A&M and became a proud member of the Class of ’50. While attending A&M he was a member of the Corp of Cadets and a member of the Ross Volunteers. He graduated in 1950 with a BS in Agricultural and Life Sciences with a major in Wildlife Management and became a commissioned officer in the Army.

After serving in the Army, he returned to Texas A&M and earned a MS degree in Chemistry. Gilbert married the love of his life, Maudene Callier in 1950. They had one son, Brian Corwin Chambers. They lived in Virginia, College Station, Texas, and Baytown, Texas. Gilbert and Maudene have been married 71 years.

In 1957, Gil joined Humble Oil and Refining Company and later transferred to Esso Research and Engineering Company. During his career with Exxon he made numerous contributions and established himself as a highly respected world authority on products for the agricultural industry. He led the development of FLIT MLO for mosquito control. His activities as a researcher and business developer took him all over the United States and other parts of the world, including the Caribbean, Central and South America, Australia and Europe. Gil, Maudene and Brian enjoyed traveling and took many trips and tours both nationally and internationally in his retirement. Gil would study about places where they planned to travel, so that he was an expert by the time they arrived at their destination. He definitely took joy in being a lifetime learner.

Another of his passions was working in his yard and has passed his love of plants to Brian. Gil took great pleasure in donating scholarships and the Maudene and Gilbert Chambers Writing Center.

He also sponsored scholarships and made donations to his beloved Texas A&M University. Most of all, Gil loved his family!

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.navarrefuneralhome.com for the Chambers family.

The family would like to thank their caregivers Anita Cook, Emily Crowell, Stephanie Hopson, and Valencia Farrah.
