Roll Call Tribute

Philip Torti Jr. '44 August 16, 2021 3:45 PM updated: August 16, 2021 3:55 PM

Philip Albert Torti Jr.
May 7, 1922 – January 26, 2021

Philip was born May 7, 1922 in Dallas, Texas to Philip A. Torti, Sr., and Delia Margueritte McNamara Torti, and into a large and proud Italian/Irish heritage.

He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended A&M University where he studied agriculture. Philip joined many of his classmates and left school in what would have been his senior year to enlist in the Navy and help defend his country.

He met and courted the love of his life, Elizabeth McDaniel (Bettye) while in high school. The love birds were married in Rockwall, Texas after Philip left A&M. Once he finished basic training, the new couple moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where Philip trained to be a Navy Pilot.

When the war ended, Bettye and Philip moved back to Dallas, where Philip joined the Post Office and worked until his retirement.

Philip and Bettye loved Big Band music and loved to dance. They filled their home with love, laughter and children. They were married for 76 years and loved each other without measure.

Philip is survived by his sons Phil and John, his daughters Victoria and Bernice, his grandchildren Paul, Mark, Ricky, Robert, John Philip, Loren '09, Geena, Carli, and many great-grandchildren.

Philip and Bettye lived their lives for Christ and were active in their church all their lives. Their kindness and generosity set the example and lives on through their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will love him forever.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021, 2 PM at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, Texas 75220. www.calvaryhilldallas.com
