William "Bill" Elery Howard, Jr.
Thursday, August 28th, 1941 - Thursday, August 12th, 2021

William Elery (Bill) Howard, Jr., 79, of Victoria, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 12, 2021, from complications of a rare form of Parkinsonism. Family and friends will gather for visitation, Wednesday, August 18th, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 704 Mallette Dr. in Victoria, from 9AM to 10AM with a rosary to be prayed at 9:30AM. Funeral Mass will begin at 10AM. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill’s grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Blake Dunn, Bobby Lane, Patrick Uresti , and past and present members of the Board of Directors of Trust Texas Bank.

Bill was born August 28, 1941 in Bryan, Texas to the late Mary Helen Jones Howard; and William E. Howard, Sr. He attended Victoria High School (class of ’59), Victoria College, Texas A&M and was a member of the Corps of Cadets in Company “Gentlemen” G-2, and Southwest Graduate School of Banking (SMU). He was a Viet Nam veteran (U.S. Navy) and a member of V.F.W. and American Legion. In 1964, he married his sweetheart, Peggy Tolbert.

Bill began his banking career with First National Bank of Bryan, Texas, under the tutelage of Travis Bryan, Jr., and ended his career some 50 years later with his beloved Trust Texas Bank. He had served there as president and CEO, and after his retirement, became a member of the board of directors. Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, John E. Howard; and two grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Peggy Tolbert Howard; children, Jay '20 and Annette Howard, Christy '93 and William '92 Mason, and Jess '95 and Dana '95 Howard; grandchildren, Jessica Uresti, Marian and Derek Jameson, Genna Uresti, Sam Howard, Jack Howard, Grayson Howard, John Howard '23, Clare Howard, William Howard, and Vivian Howard; great-grandchild, Charlotte Rose Jameson; along with numerous other loving family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of South Texas would be appreciated.
