David Keese '77 August 11, 2021 11:29 AM updated: August 11, 2021 1:25 PM

David Lee Keese
November 11, 1954 - August 07, 2021

David Lee Keese was born on November 11, 1954 in San Antonio, Texas to Wayne and Doris Keese. David was the family’s second son after Mike and before Gary and Laurel.

As a child growing up in College Station, David was a gifted student and athlete. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting and playing with his siblings. After graduating at the top of his class from A&M Consolidated High School in 1973, David enrolled at Texas A&M University where he continued to excel academically in pursuit of a degree in aerospace engineering.

After graduating with his bachelor’s in 1977 and getting married to Michelle Shaw, they spent several years serving as missionaries together in Cebu City in the Philippines. Upon their return to the United States, David and Michelle welcomed three children - Jeffrey, John, and Jennifer - to their family. David spent almost 34 years working as an engineer and manager for Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was active in his children’s lives; coaching their soccer teams and traveling with them to California, Nevada, Hawaii, and often back to Texas to see family. David enjoyed serving his Christian family through his home church of Netherwood Park there in Albuquerque: working with the youth group, teaching Bible classes, and leading singing. He most enjoyed his time each summer working with children at Ponderosa Christian Camp, where he was not only a session director, but led hikes, played volleyball, gave fireside devotional talks, and organized water balloon fights. David was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013 and soon retired from his work at Sandia.

Early on, he remained an active part of his children’s lives; traveling to help with home improvement projects and spending time with his new grandchildren. As the disease progressed, David relocated back to his hometown here in the Bryan-College Station area. He returned to church here at A&M Church of Christ, where he had once attended as a child. Sadly, his condition deteriorated as time progressed, but he remained a cheerful and funny character - he was well-liked by his caretakers and fellow residents at Parc. David passed on Saturday, August 7th; gently moving on to meet Jesus as he was released from his struggle here on earth.

David is survived by his parents, Wayne and Doris Keese, his siblings, Mike, Gary, and Laurel, and his three children, Jeffrey '05, John, and Jennifer, and their families including six grandchildren.
