Mark Douglas Gray
March 13, 1953 - June 24, 2021

Mark Douglas Gray, an Eagle Scout, aged 68, passed away in Chico, CA on June 24, 2021. Born in Houston, Texas on March 13, 1953 to Donald M. Gray, a private pilot, and Mary E. Gray, a school secretary.

Mark presaged his life’s interest in public service by earning BA degrees in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Natural Resources and Park Management, while later earning a Master’s degree in Public Administration. An avowed “Aggie” Mark entered the Navy and rose to the rank of Captain in the reserves.

After working in hotel management and as a customs broker Mark was a substitute teacher for the Chico Unified School District and spent many years as a member of several local Northern California Nonprofit Organizations in his retirement. He spent most weekends cleaning up Lindo Channel, Bidwell and Comanche Park and volunteering at National and State of California Parks on various site improvement projects. For several years he proudly served the Chico area as a Blue and Gold Officer supporting young high school graduates in attaining entrance to the Naval Academy.

He was a quiet living example of his lifelong Christian faith and will be greatly missed.

Mark will be laid to rest on July 6, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery.
