Wayne Charles Meyer
February 27, 1945 – May 11, 2021
Wayne was born on February 27, 1945 at Mainland Hospital in Texas City, Texas. His parents were Alton H. Meyer, Sr. and Alberta Schumann Meyer. His father-in-law was Grady Collier and mother-in-law Joan Westmorland Collier of Metairie, Louisiana, both of which he dearly loved. He had two brothers; Alton H. Meyer, Jr. and sister-in-law Sandra of LaMarque, Texas and Richard C. Meyer and sister-in-law Ann, of Boerne, Texas, brother-in-law Chuck Zatarain and sister-in-law Diane Collier Zatarain of Metairie, Louisiana.
He is survived by the love of his life, his loving wife of 42+ years, Carol Collier Meyer, their children, daughter Margaret Collier Meyer Gilroy and husband Kyle Gilroy of El Lago, Texas and son, Collier Andersen Meyer and his wife Julie Toole Meyer of Metairie, Louisiana and daughter Amy Lynn Meyer of Texas City, Texas. In addition, he also has 6 grandchildren and numerous cousins, 6 nieces, & 2 nephews.
Mr. Meyer graduated from LaMarque High School in 1963. He attended Texas A&M University, Class of 1967, where he received a BS in Architectural Construction. He served in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1968 after active duty on the USS Buchannan, DDG14, a guided missile destroyer. Upon discharge he completed his education at Texas A&M in 1970 and worked on numerous highway and bridge projects in Galveston County, was Director of Planning and Transportation in Texas City from 1971-1976 and Senior Planning Associate with Wilbur Smith & Associates in Houston, Texas from 1976-1982. He concentrated on urban land development for the last 35+ years where he managed numerous land development projects in the Houston area, most recently including Coles Crossing and Firethorne with Jefferson Development Company.
He was a member of the GHBA Developers Council, charter member of the Missouri City Developers Council, former Director and Executive Board member of the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce and member of the Katy Economic Development Council. He was active in supporting Katy ISD and served on numerous committees including the Leadership Committee, Katy ISD Bond Planning Committees and Long Range Planning Committee. In 2013 the Katy Rotary Club honored him by naming him the Grand Marshal of the Katy Triathlon, which raises scholarship funds for Katy students.
He was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church (MDUMC) for 30 years where he served on the Board of Stewards, sang in the choir and was a member of the King’s Brass, MDUMC Orchestra and Praise Team. He converted to Catholicism in 2014 and was active in Epiphany Catholic Church in Katy. He loved music, playing trumpet and flugelhorn, and performed professionally in numerous rhythm and blues groups as well as classical ensembles and at weddings. He frequently played on Sunday mornings at church.
Wayne (Dad, Mad Dog, Dub-cee) has always been cherished and will be deeply missed for his unconditional love and devotion to family. His loyalty to friends, close and far - past and present, is unmatched. His trust in the Lord, charitable spirit, steadfast faith, and hope for what tomorrow brings will be remembered forever. Everything he stood for will live on with all those who knew him.
