William "Bill" Felton Jr. '58 June 3, 2021 10:09 AM updated: June 3, 2021 10:14 AM

William Elbert Felton, Jr.
May 20, 1936 - May 25, 2021

William (Billy) Elbert Felton, Jr., surrounded by his family, went to be with the Lord at the age of 85 on May 25, 2021.

Billy was born on May 20, 1936, in Laredo, Texas, to Cora Wright Felton and William (Shorty) Elbert Felton. They raised Billy and his siblings, Sue Ann, Venice, and Bobby, in Hebbronville, Texas. He graduated from Hebbronville High School in 1954. Billy attended Texas A&M University for one year where he was a member of the Texas A&M Aggie Corp of Cadets. He then transferred to Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While he was a college student he married his sweetheart, Darlene Fuson, in 1956. His first job was in McAllen, TX working for Goodyear Tires before moving back to Hebbronville.

Billy and Darlene had four daughters who they raised in Hebbronville where he was a Mobile Consignee as well as Propane distributor. He ran his business, Jet Butane, for 20 years until he sold it and retired at the age of 45. He was on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Hebbronville for 40 years and an active member of the First Baptist Church there.

Billy loved to attend every sporting event or performance his girls were involved in, as well as to hunt, travel, and spend his time helping others. He taught each of his girls how to shoot a rifle, hunt, and drive a stick shift. Most importantly, he taught them to love Jesus and love others.

In 1994, Billy and Darlene moved to Boerne, TX where they built their dream home and joined First Baptist Church of Boerne. In early 1997, he lost Darlene to illness after 41 years of marriage. Shortly after, God blessed him with his second wife, Charlene Smith, and they enjoyed many adventures traveling in their RV and spending time with Billy’s siblings and their spouses. He was a wonderful, loving husband to both of his brides and considered himself a blessed man in love and life.

Billy continued to serve others in Boerne just as he had in Hebbronville...generously giving to others of his time and finances. At 80 years old he was still driving, in his words, “the old people” of FBC to their doctor’s appointments. Billy leaves a legacy of faith in God, servanthood, love, and humor. He made people laugh and feel at ease wherever he went until the very end of his life. Billy was fluent in Spanish and loved to speak it whenever he could...joyfully speaking it with his hospice nurse days before he entered Glory.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene; his three siblings, Sue Ann Danmier, Venice Brandt, Robert “Bobby” Felton and their spouses; as well as his daughters, Robin Berry, Tracy Kaiser, Jodi Wolf, Kelly Stahl and their husbands; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Billy’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Boerne at 2:00 p.m.
