Joseph Leon Curtis
August 8, 1936 - May 27, 2021

Joseph Leon Curtis passed away May 27, 2021. Born August 8, 1936, in Floresville, Texas to Samuel & Docia Curtis.

Better known as Leon, he grew up in the farmland of south Texas. He graduated from Floresville High School in 1953 at the age of 16. He went on to graduate from his beloved Texas A&M in College Station, with a degree in civil engineering specializing in flood plain management. He was proud to be a member of the Corps of Cadets . He graduated in 1957 at the age of 20.

Upon leaving college, Leon joined the Army branch of the armed services. He served 10 years in the artillery division. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.

After leaving the Army, Leon had a distinguished 37 year career with the Corps of Engineers. He was well respected for his expertise in Flood Plain Management. Not yet ready to leave the working world, he spent 12 years with the City of Garland and 3 1/2 years for the State of Texas. He officially retired in 2011.

He was an active member of Axe United Methodist Church in Garland, Texas.
Leon was a “people person.” He was always ready with a joke or story. He was a member of the Toast Masters Organization for 40 years. He enjoyed giving speeches to a captive audience.

Joseph Leon Curtis was preceded in death by his first wife Joan Curtis, parents Joseph Samuel and Docia, brothers Wilbur and Sam and sister Docia Mae.

He is survived by his son David Alan Curtis and wife Amber, grandson David X. Curtis and granddaughter Kymber Curtis.

He is survived by second wife Loretta Curtis and stepchildren Jeanette Davis and family and David Horton and family.

He will be missed!
