Roy S. Reynolds Jr
October 8, 1925 - May 18, 2021
Roy S Reynolds Jr was born in his grandparents’ house in Tuscola, Texas, to Roy S Reynolds, Sr and Maggie Branton Reynolds. In his early childhood, the family moved from Tuscola to Junction, Texas, and then to Abilene, just as the Great Depression began.
At 16, Roy graduated from Abilene High and enrolled in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University. Midway through his sophomore year, he returned to Abilene and answered the call to enlist; he joined the Army as a member of the Signal Corps. While stationed at Camp Crowder, Missouri, he met his sweetheart Dorothy Ruth Kastendieck, affectionately known as Dot, while on an afternoon leave in nearby Springfield.
Following the war and an honorable discharge, they were married, caught the midnight Katy Train to Dallas and briefly honeymooned at the Adolphus. The newlyweds settled in College Station while Roy completed his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, and upon graduation, he accepted a position with AT&T in Dallas.
Over the next decade, Roy and Dot were transferred between multiple Midwest locations, and their son, Craig, was born in Kansas City. In lieu of yet another transfer, this time to New York City, Roy took a job with a Dallas startup, Texas Instruments (TI). Roy spent the next 27 years with TI, retiring in 1987 as the Manager of Communications, worldwide. During his nearly 3 decades at Texas Instruments, Roy rebuilt the communications system three times, retiring just prior to the full integration of the telephone into digital communications.
Roy and Dot spent their retirement traveling, gardening, building furniture, relaxing at their lake house, and spending time with the family. He enjoyed watching the Cowboys and held a fierce love for his Fightin’ Texas Aggies. The love for his Aggies was only surpassed by his appreciation of family and joy in the Lord.
Roy was a devoted caregiver as Dot battled brain tumors for 13 years. Since then, he has spent Sunday mornings in the Berean Class at Northwest Bible Church. He spent his days tending his garden and wildflowers and looking forward to chats with his neighbors.
Roy is survived by his son Craig '77, daughter-in-law Jenny, grandchildren Valerie and Savannah, his sister-in-law Betty Kastendieck, and his nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the Wildwood Chapel, Restland Memorial Park, with an interment to follow.
