Liston Zander Maner
December 24, 1933 - April 29, 2021

Liston Zander Maner was born on Dec. 24, 1933, to Herman and Nora Langerhans Maner in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was baptized Jan. 1, 1934 and later confirmed in the Methodist church in Fredericksburg. Later he joined Bethany Lutheran Church.

As an 11th grade FFA member, Liston won the Houston Livestock Show Grand Champion Turkey. Liston was an outstanding football player for Fredericksburg High School, joining the team as an eighth grader and lettering for four years, he went on to play for Texas A&M where he studied engineering.

He was one of Coach Bear Bryant’s “Junction Boys” with intense all-day training away from campus in the Junction area. In his sophomore year, Liston’s father died, and Liston returned to help on the family ranches.

On April 11, 1959, Liston married Barbara June Nolte in Lockhart. He was a rancher and worked on the TexasNew Mexico Pipeline, for Afsco and Gellesco, aircraft manufacturing companies as a certified aircraft welder and manager, before going to work for various local builders.

In 1977, Liston formed his own building company for new builds, remodeling, and restoration.

He was involved in the Masonic Lodge and a past Grand Master and Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, a member of the Young Farmers, Billie Boosters, and Hermann Sons.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, thrashing pecan trees, photography, videoing, and traveling with family and friends. He was a patient teacher for many, especially when teaching his children, grandchildren and other relatives how to drive the ranch vehicles and farm equipment.

He suffered a stroke about 12 years ago. He passed away on April 29, 2021 at the age of 87.

He is survived by his wife Barbara June Maner; children, Zander Maner and wife, Vonnie, of Fredericksburg, and Daphne Nauck and husband, Marshall, of Cranston, Rhode Island.

Survivors also include his grandchildren: Carissa Tronstad and husband, Brian, of Fredericksburg; Zach Maner and wife, Ashley, of Fredericksburg; Anneliese Grafe and husband, Zach, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Liesl Free and husband, Jeramy, of West Columbia, South Carolina; and Cullen Nauck of West Hartford, Connecticut; and great-grandchildren: Hadley Maner, Braxton Maner, Lilly Tronstad, Nora Tronstad, Liston Tronstad, Titus Grafe, Micah Grafe, Talitha Grafe, Lydia Grafe, Judson Free and Lewis Free.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Nora Maner.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Casey Zesch officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Zach Maner, Brian Tronstad, Mike Fehlis, Carl Braker, Victor Smith, Mitchell Maner, Cullen Nauck, Jeramy Free and Zach Grafe.

Honorary pallbearers were the Katy Steel Hunters and Pecos River Hunters.

Visitation was held Friday evening, April 30, from 5-7, at Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, Gillespie County Country Schools or the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.
