Lyle Blaine McCurdy
9/19/1940 - 4/7/2021
Lyle Blaine McCurdy was born in Huntington, OR on 9/19/1940 and raised in Portland. Shortly after graduating from Cleveland High School Lyle served four years in the Air Force. While at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL, Lyle met his wife Sheila in Chicago and they married on April 17, 1960. They have two grown daughters, Lorrenda and Sue, four beautiful grandchildren, and two lively great-grandsons, with a great-granddaughter on the way. Lyle really wanted to see that baby girl but figured he could see her from Heaven.
Lyle loved education. He worked hard and studied harder, earning his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Arizona State University; working days and studying nights and weekends. After receiving his Bachelor's Degree he started teaching Electronic Technology at ASU. Lyle's love of learning compelled him to earn his Ph.D. in Industrial Education at Texas A&M University, where he also taught. He went on to become Chair in Electronic Technology at Cal-Poly Pomona, CA. Lyle devoted 33 years to education and retired from Cal-Poly in 2009.
He had a deep love of teaching and helping his students achieve their best, keeping in touch with many of them until the end. He begged his wife to make sure each was called when the time came, and Sheila did her best to accomplish that feat! When Lyle became too weak to walk on his own, he relied on his 3 caregivers, Linda (throughout the week) and Marcey and Jesse (nights and weekends). Each of them meant a great deal to Lyle for their companionship, laughter, and love.
Lyle loved his daughters and their families. Although never feeling worthy himself, everyone that Sheila spoke with said that Lyle was a great man, filled with humor and great concern for others and loved his family immensely. The one person that he cherished most in this world and did not want to leave, was his wife of over 60 years. Lyle stepped into Heaven just 10 days shy of their 61st anniversary.
There will be an open house Celebration of Life for Lyle on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 1 to 8 pm at their home, with a special time of sharing and honoring Lyle at 4pm.
Food will be served.
