August 26,1942 - April 18, 2021

Travis Roland Brice was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 18, 2021 at the age of 78, surrounded by his entire family. He was born to James and Epsie Brice on August 26,1942 in the small town of Splendora, Texas. He graduated Valedictorian of his class of 11 from Splendora High School in 1960. With a smart mind but very limited resources, the prospect of college seemed bleak. But with God, all things are possible.
In the fall of 1960, Travis stepped onto the campus of The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas where he majored in Aerospace Engineering. It was also during that time that he met the love of his life, Sarah Kay. A friendship was made and a type of courtship began through the mail. Travis was smittened but Sarah Kay, not so much. He was determined and God had a plan. After numerous proposals and the smooth certainty from him that she would one day love him, Sarah Kay finally answered yes. The two were married 8 months later and were married for 58 years.
After graduating from Texas A&M University in the fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1964, he moved his family of 3 to Tullahoma, Tennessee for his first job. He completed his Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee while raising his young family. After 4 quick years, the family of 5 moved to Fort Worth, Texas for a new job working for General Dynamics. They hoped to raise their family in a town they loved. But God had a different plan.
In 1973, he accepted a job at Ford Aerospace in Houston. This job would ultimately lead to the career path of his dreams. He began working at NASA in Mission Control and ended with the Space Shuttle Program. This was an absolute thrill for the small town boy from Splendora who loved airplanes. He thoroughly enjoyed his time working there until his disability led him to retire from NASA in 2000.
Travis enjoyed anything that had to do with airplanes, dominoes, Aggie football, and coaching Brian’s Little League baseball teams. He was also a private pilot for 26 years. He enjoyed flying with the Confederate Air Force group. He especially loved teaching the Young Married Class and serving as deacon at Heritage Park and Sagemont Baptist Churches. As his grandson Jason stated, “he loved everything from Blazing Saddles to Bible Study.”
Our prayer is that his legacy will live on in our lives and in the lives he touched as husband, Daddy, Papaw, friend, and teacher. Travis is survived by his wife, Sarah Kay, his children Janice Bernard(husband Philip), Brian Brice, Cheryl Armstrong(husband Brad). His grandchildren are Jason Bernard(wife Kendra), Jessica Bernard, Cameron Armstrong, Jonathan Armstrong, two great grandchildren, Aubrey and Merritt Bernard, brother Marvin Brice and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held at Peevey Funeral & Cremation, Friday, April 23, from 6pm until 8pm. The funeral service will be held at Sagemont Church, Saturday, April 24, at 11:00am., Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
