Gary Wayne Kirk
MAY 29, 1941 – NOVEMBER 23, 2020

GARY WAYNE KIRK was born on May 29, 1941 and went to be with the Lord November 23, 2020 peacefully in his home after a long battle with dementia. He was born in San Antonio, TX to Agnes Frances and James William Kirk. Eighteen months later his brother James Patrick Kirk was also born into the family. Since this all occurred during World War II mother and sons had to get along alone while Dad was called off to war. When Gary reached school age he went to St. Patrick’s Academy and later Central Catholic High School. While at Central he proudly served and led in JROTC. After high school he attended Texas A&M University where he joined the Corps of Cadets, and then later he attended San Antonio College.

Gary met Carol Shelton at Southwest Research Institute, where they both worked. On July 1, 1972, they were married, and together they raised their two children: Elizabeth Williams, married to Art, and Wayne Kirk, married to Kathleen. Their children are: Selah and Artis Williams, and Elliot and Laurel Kirk.

Gary grew up going to Catholic school and church. When he and Carol began dating he began attending Trinity Baptist Church with her where she was a member. He later joined Trinity and attended there for over 30 years. Later he and Carol joined First Baptist Church Helotes.

Gary worked at Southwest Research Institute for over 38 years where he loved and was very proud of his work. He traveled around the United States, Korea, and England and retired May 2005.

Gary enjoyed fishing, traveling, carpentry, electronics, and building model boats, airplanes, cars, drawing, and painting. He also delighted in spending time with family. We wish to extend a special thanks and our eternal gratitude to Margaret Koch-RN, Johnny Cook-CNA, Kelly Kelch-Social Worker, Michelle Vetters-Chaplain, and everyone at Vitas who was so caring and took such good care of Gary while he was under their service.

Should anyone desire, contributions may be given in honor of Gary Kirk to Alzheimer's Association and/or First Baptist Church Helotes.
