Dennis Nickel
November 13, 1956 - March 11, 2021

On March 11, 2021, Dennis Wayne Nickel passed away at his home in Round Rock, TX, after a long battle with cancer. Dennis was born in Taylor, TX, on November 13, 1956 to Elton and Ruth (Beyer) Nickel of Coupland, TX. This is where he grew to understand what hard work and a great work ethic means.

Dennis attended school in Coupland and later graduated from Taylor High School. He was active in 4-H and FFA showing livestock and poultry and received numerous awards and recognitions including the FFA American Farmer Degree. Dennis continued his education at Texas A&M University, graduating in 1979 with a degree in Agricultural Education. While at A&M he competed on the Livestock and Meats Judging teams.

Dennis started his career in the banking industry with Farmers Home Administration in Plains and Brady Texas, and later worked at Nolte State Bank in Seguin before joining Capital Farm Credit. He began his twenty-eight year employment with Capital Farm Credit as a loan officer in Seguin. He later transitioned to the main office, in Austin, TX, as part of the Loan Review Team. Dennis finished out his career as Director of Credit Review, until his retirement in 2014.

In addition to his love for agriculture, Dennis loved to bake and cook various delicious treats and recipes to share with others. He also enjoyed the opportunity to travel and visit casinos on some occasions. Dennis spent much of his time in recent years helping to care for his mother Ruth, before her passing in 2018. Dennis was dearly loved by his family, friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Elton Nickel, and his mother, Ruth Nickel.

Dennis is survived by his brother Larry Nickel '74 of La Grange, his partner Donny Gamble of Round Rock, nephew Lance Nickel of La Grange, niece Sarah Nickel, and great niece Chloe Oliva both of Kyle, along with numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Church in Coupland, TX located at 108 Wathen St. on Saturday March 20th, 2021, at 2 p.m. Occupancy is limited to 50% due to COVID-19 guidelines. Face masks are requested.
