January 01, 1928 - October 06, 2020 (age 92)

James “Jim” Mortensen passed away Tuesday morning in San Antonio at age 92. Jim was born in Uvalde, TX in 1928 and graduated from Crystal City High School and Texas A&M where he played football and ran track for the Aggies. In 1950, he married Nell Mortensen in Carrizo Springs. He worked as a Civil Engineer for the Highway Dept. in Austin, TX and San Bernadino, CA. Later he worked for Exxon in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Peru, Florida and Georgia before establishing a land surveying company in Uvalde. Jim worked at his surveying company in Uvalde for most of his life and was active in his church.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Jon Steven '74; brothers, John and Charles; sister, Marie; and grandson, Hunter. He is survived by 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery.
