Bartolome "Bart" Garcia
November 25, 1937 - April 10, 2021
Bartolomé (Bart) Garcia of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on April 10th, 2021, his wife and daughters by his side. Bart was born on November 25, 1937 in Laredo, Texas and later moved with his family to Brownsville, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bartolomé and Amelia M. Garcia and his brothers, Hector and Ricardo Garcia.
Bartolomé graduated from Texas A&M University in 1958, where he served his senior year as the Commanding Officer of C-Field Artillery in The Corp of Cadets. During his junior year, he was honored by being appointed to a special unit of the Corp, the Ross Volunteers. Bart remained a “Fightin’ Texas Aggie” until his last breath, happy that many of his children and grandchildren followed in his footsteps and graduated from A&M as well.
Bart met his wife, Amelia, while he was attending St. Joseph Academy and she was attending Villa Maria High School. They married in 1960 and moved to Freeport where he began his career as a research chemist at Dow Chemical Company. He retired in 1993. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, and in particular his grandchildren during his retirement. He regularly played tennis twice a week through his 82nd birthday. During football season, everything in the Garcia home was centered around what time and day the Aggies would play!
Bart is survived by his wife of 60 years, Amelia Garza Garcia and his three daughters: Cristina Bacica and her husband David '76, Alicia Lowry '85 and her husband Pat '85, and Diana Christman '87. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Nicholas Bacica '11, Joseph Bacica '12, Lauren Lowry, Lesley Lowry Ladrech and her husband Bryan, Jack Christman '17 and his wife Kelsey '17, Daniel Christman '19 and Katie Christman '22.
Bart was a parishioner at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic church in Freeport until St. Michael the Archangel Catholic church opened its doors in the 1960s. The family will hold a private graveside service. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.Lakewoodfuneralchapel.com.
