James attended Texas A&M University and graduated with the Class of 1973 when he received his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science. He then attended graduate school at A&M as well and received his Master's degree in Agricultural Economics.
He is survived by wife Susan and son Morgan. He was a resident of Deer Park, TX at the time of passing.
