Robert Morris Riske
September 21, 1943 - March 27, 2021

Robert Morris Riske departed from this life on March 27, 2021. He was born in Brenham, Texas, on September 21, 1943, to Louis and Ida Mae Riske of Giddings. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings on October 3, 1943, by Pastor Max Studtmann and was confirmed there April 14, 1957, by Pastor Studtmann.

His family moved to Pasadena in 1957, and became members of Zion Lutheran Church. There he met Dolores Jean Kelling, his future bride. He graduated from South Houston High School in 1961. He entered Texas A&M University in the fall of 1961, and became a member of the Corps of Cadets. He was assigned to Squadron 8, nicknamed “Animal 8”, and became lifelong friends with most of them. During his sophomore year, on December 15, 1962, he married Dolores, daughter of Henry and Ruth Kelling of Pasadena, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pastor Walter F. Bielefeldt officiating. He graduated in May 1965, as Squadron 15’s Commanding Officer and a Distinguished Military Graduate with a degree in Accounting.

He entered the U.S. Air Force in September 1965, as a supply officer at Kincheloe AFB, Michigan. Over the next 26 years, he had 12 different assignments as a supply/logistics officer at 10 separate bases. His favorite assignments were serving as Chief of Supply/Supply Squadron Commander at Hahn AFB, Germany, and Holloman AFB, New Mexico. He was a superb leader and loved his troops as they did him. During his service, Robert was awarded the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster and the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters. He retired with the rank of Colonel on July 31, 1991.

Following military retirement, he and Dolores moved to Georgetown and became members of Zion Lutheran Church in 1995. He was in charge of maintenance at the church and school for 10 years, which was a labor of love for him. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, and held many offices and positions.

Robert was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He and Dolores have three daughters: Deborah Ruth Standifer and husband Robert of Taylor, children Lauren Michelle Volek '15 and husband Tyler of Liberty Hill, and Robert Cole of Stephenville; Sharon Elaine Christensen and husband Matt of West Haven, Utah, children Emma Grace of Dallas and Bode Allen of West Haven; and Rebecca Lynne Mazoch '05, husband Zach, children Landon Lee and Ella Paige of College Station.

He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, along with sisters Carol Jurk and husband William, Kay Brown and husband Frank, Linda Frank, and Cheryl Evans; brother Glenn Riske and wife Sara; brothers-in-law Douglas Kelling and David Kelling and wife Lorene; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Kenny Frank.

Memorials and donations may be made to Zion Lutheran School.

A visitation with the family will take place on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown from 6-8 PM.

The graveside services will begin at noon on Wednesday , March 31, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery with the funeral service to immediately follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Sanctuary.
