Emil Howard Pietsch
April 9, 1928 – March 25, 2021

Howard passed away peacefully at home while comforted by his family in Tyler, Texas.

Howard was born in 1928 in Dallas, Texas, son of Emil Herman Pietsch and Lovie Young. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas prior to attending Texas A&M. After graduation from A&M he worked as a civilian analyst for the Air Force Security Service in San Antonio, Texas. In 1951 he reported for activity duty with the Armed Forces Security Agency in Arlington, Virginia where he was stationed for 2 years.

After discharge he worked a short time in Dallas as an assistant buyer for Sanger’s Department Store before working for Employers Group of Boston as a claims adjuster. In 1958 he found his calling when he went into the insurance business with Bob Noble ’49. Over the next 41 years he dedicated himself to a career as an Independent Insurance Agent owning his own agency for 18 years as well as being a principal in the partnerships of Hartley, Pietsch & Wilhite and Alliance Insurance Agency. During his career he was an officer for the Dallas Association of Insurance Agents. He also served four two year terms as a member of the Placement Board of Dallas which was responsible for writing all insurance for the City and County of Dallas. He was a member of the Dallas Association of Insurance Agents and Texas Association of Insurance Agents for over 40 years.

After retirement in 1999, for the next five years he and his wife Kathy hit the road in their 5th wheel trailer to explore the United States and Canada. He was an avid golfer and fan of Fighting Texas Aggie and Dallas Cowboys football. He was the consummate story and joke teller. He was blessed with an amazing ability to put others at ease.

Howard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Pietsch, son John Pietsch '85 and wife Jacque Pietsch, son David Pietsch and wife Valerie Pietsch, and daughter Julie Pietsch and her son Jack Tokarz.
