Timothy Arthur Hood
MARCH 20, 1958 – APRIL 7, 2020

Timothy Arthur Hood, or "Hood," finished his long, hard battle with cancer peacefully in his home on Tuesday morning, April 7, 2020 in Fort Worth at the age of 62.

Hood’s Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled for later this summer. Details to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tim’s life and legacy. Tim was born on March 20, 1958 in Pearland, Texas to Claude and Millie Hood. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Science. At A&M, he met and married Karen Cook in 1978. Upon graduation, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Tim began working later for Southwest High School as a Math Teacher. During their marriage they had two daughters, Sarah and Amy.

During his 34 year career at Southwest HS, Tim began the Media Technology program, now called SHS Productions. Since its creation in 1989, SHS Productions has seen hundreds of students walk through the program, setting them up for higher education and successful careers in the industry. Over the course of SHS Productions, students have won many awards in UIL competition and competed at the state level every year since 1999, with countless state championships. Tim helped judge and coordinate SkillsUSA contests from the local to national level over the years. He was a past president of AVACA, the professional organization for Audio Video Production teachers in Texas. He was awarded a lifelong membership in PTA, led students in their production of the All-American game Pro Bowl that aired on ESPN3 and he would supervise over 100 shoots a year where students would cover sporting events, school events, performances at Bass Hall, AV support at TCU, and the list goes on.

In 2005, Tim married Julie Baker. Throughout their almost 15 years of marriage, they have been able to take on many adventures together, doing some of their favorite things: cross-country road tripping, visits to the beach, going ‘junkin’, creating “over the top” theatrical sets, relaxing in their pool, spending time with children and grandchildren and running their Hoodland business where they said, If you dream it, we can make it!

In 2017, Tim retired from Southwest High School and Fort Worth ISD where he had spent his entire career. But in January of 2019, he found his “dream job” and he couldn’t say no to the opportunity. He started working at I.M. Terrell High School for STEM and Visual and Performing Arts as the Facilities Coordinator. He coordinated, scheduled, staffed and oversaw events that happened in the Visual and Performing Arts Center, still mentoring students, but in a different capacity than he had previously done. He told his daughters, “It is like my entire life and everything I learned was all leading up to me having this job.” He loved it and was well-respected and loved by the students, faculty and other professionals with whom he worked.

Tim was one of the most unique and incredible people in the world, always jumping at the opportunity to help someone, serve behind the scenes or take advantage of a teachable moment. He was known for being “passionately stubborn,” never letting a job go unfinished. At Southwest, incoming freshman often entered his classroom with trepidation, as his commitment to excellence gave him a fearsome reputation. Students came to understand that Tim cared for them and was dedicated to helping them succeed, both in school and in life.

A close friend summed up the way Tim lived his life this way, “He was a thoughtful, dear man in his gruff ole way. He always had food – lunch meat, bread, Poptarts, etc. – for kids who had no lunch or breakfast. He was really a softie! And when they stayed late for a shoot he always bought them pizza or hamburger meals. He was such a good-hearted man who raced to Louisiana to help after Katrina and to Galveston after Ike; who installed radio stations in the backwoods of Alaska so people could communicate.”

Tim came to know Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age in Pearland. Over the years he grew in his faith by serving as worship leader at A&M Baptist Student Union, as a summer missionary in Zambia, as the lead of the Media Team at Wedgwood Baptist Church and on multiple youth choir mission trips doing what he loved – mentoring students. On Sundays you could find Tim at the back of Glenview Baptist Church, sitting at the sound board. He was always one of the first to arrive and last to leave, eager to make sure things ran smoothly for a normal Sunday service, Christmas pageant, Easter celebration or Gospel music concert. He loved music, audio engineering and loved that he could serve the Lord and the church with his passions and giftings.

Tim is survived by his wife, Julie; daughter Sarah Young and her husband Tyler; daughter Amy Church and her husband Dwight; stepson Chris Baker; stepdaughter Briana Amyett; grandchildren Jonah Baker, Ian Church, Lyra Amyett, Harley Amyett, Jane Church and Crockett Church. He is preceded in death by parents Claude and Mildred "Millie" Hood; brothers Lesley Hood and Presley Hood.
