Donald Charles Sawyer
JANUARY 20, 1937 – JANUARY 17, 2021
Donald “Don” Charles Sawyer, 83, returned to his heavenly home on January 16, 2021, peacefully with June, his wife of 62 years, by his side. Don was born in Chattanooga, TN on January 20, 1937. He and his family moved to Houston in 1938. He grew up in a loving Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age. Don graduated from Texas A&M in 1959 and had a life-long career in the laboratory and biotechnology industry.
Retiring from Fisher Scientific in 2005 after 40 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and anything outdoors. He loved the Lord, his family, and especially his dog, Daisy. Don married his high school sweetheart June Evelyn Harrison in 1958.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlton and Jeanette Sawyer, and his two brothers, Robert Sawyer and Jack Sawyer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Stephanie Sawyer, Chuck Sawyer and wife Tamala, and L’Don Sawyer and husband Cary Cohen. Grandson Chris Sawyer '06 and wife Astrid and great grandson Ethan Sawyer. Step grandchildren, Faith Hope, and Grace Cory and step great granddaughter Maria Azpeitia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on February 12, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Oak Forest Baptist Church.
