Steven “Steve” Leroy Caldwell
June 7, 1956 - March 6, 2021

Steven “Steve” Leroy Caldwell, 64, of Odessa passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021 after a long battle with colon cancer.

Steve was born June 7, 1956 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Steve and his twin brother, Mike, were the oldest of five children born to Overton James and Teresa Richardson Caldwell.

He attended Midland High School, graduating in 1974. He was a member of the Midland High School Band and participated in Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout with Palms and being a member of the Order of the Arrow.

He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and was the proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1978. Steve was a member of the Corps of Cadets, the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and it was his great honor to be a member of the Silver Taps Team.

He married Cynthia “Cindy” Flynt on June 1, 1978 in Midland, Texas. The couple moved to Odessa, Texas in 1983. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a former Chairman of Deacons. He was honored to serve on
several committees, play trumpet in the orchestra, be a teacher in Bible Drill, serve as a Sunday School Department Director and be a member of the media team.

Steve became a believer in Jesus Christ at the age of 12 and served Him all his life. If any word describes his life, it is the word “servant.” He took great delight in the people he served with and the friendships formed were one of his greatest joys in life. He was a man of integrity, sharp wit and common sense who never missed an opportunity to take time for people, to help where help was needed and to apply all his gifts and talents to point others to Jesus.

He left this world with no regrets, leaving behind a legacy of faith, commitment, and service. He will be missed by those he taught, helped, prayed for, and loved. We know he is more alive today than he has ever been – perfect, whole and joyful – and seeing the Jesus he loves face to face. We rejoice in his life on earth and even more in his life right now.

“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived – the things God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9; Isaiah 64:4)

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Overton James Caldwell and Teresa Richardson Caldwell and his sister Karen Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cindy Flynt Caldwell of Odessa, TX, daughter Jennifer Caldwell Carpenter and husband Timothy Carpenter and grandsons Christopher and Logan Carpenter of Boerne, TX; brother Mike Caldwell of Temple, TX; sisters Linda Caldwell and husband Larry Drake of Kerrville, TX and Marianne Caldwell Lasseigne and husband Gerry and son Jimmy of Erath, LA.

He is also survived by Linda Darby Flynt and Debbie Flynt Maxwell and Phill Maxwell of Midland, TX and an abundant number of friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the West Texas Cancer Center, Star Hospice and the many loving friends who have been present during their time of need.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Odessa, Texas with Dr. Byron McWilliams officiating.

Steve had such a great love for Texas A&M that the family invites guests to wear maroon and white or Aggie gear if they wish.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Steve’s honor to First Baptist Church of Odessa, Texas,(709 N. Lee, Odessa, TX 79761); the Odessa Women’s Evening Class of Community Bible Study (1109 E. 49th Street, Odessa, TX 79762), Birthright of Odessa (2125 E 42nd St, Odessa, TX 79762) or the charity of your choice.
