Paul M. Vilcoq, II
November 21, 1941 - January 27, 2020
Paul M. Vilcoq II of Acworth, Georgia passed suddenly on 27 January 2020 at his home. Paul was born on November 21, 1941 to Paul M. Vilcoq and Ethel Mae Vilcoq in San Antonio, Texas. Paul was a warrior, a public servant and a master woodworker. Paul was a graduate of Texas A & M University at College Station, Texas. Gig ‘Em! Like many at that fine university, Paul was part of the Corps of Cadets, proudly wore the uniform of a soldier and was commissioned an officer upon his graduation. A uniform that he proudly wore for 26 years and brought honor to by his service. Paul was commissioned during the Vietnam War. While many sought refuge in other countries or by the hand of privilege shirked their duty, Paul honored his commitment and upheld his sacred Oath. Paul served gallantly in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After Vietnam, Paul continued to serve the nation in the most honorable and noteworthy manner, retiring after 26 years at the rank of Colonel.
After Paul took off the pack, he continued to hear the call of the nation to serve. Paul entered the government civilian work force. Paul’s steady leadership, experience and wisdom shaped the force structure of the United States Army Reserve in the turbulent times after the fall of the Soviet Union. It was through his efforts and foresight that the character and nature of the Army Reserve was transformed from a strategic reserve to an active operational force. The fruits of Paul’s labor can be seen on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan to this very day. For his outstanding work and dedication, Paul was inducted into the Force Management Hall of Fame in May 2012.
If fate had not led Paul to the life of a warrior, he most certainly would have found his passion in the art of wood working. Paul found great joy and happiness in the creation and restoration of furniture. Paul’s attention to detail and uncompromising standards produced works of the highest quality and beauty.
Paul is survived by his wife Gayle, his daughter Suzanne Lansdale-her 3 children Mason, Clay and Molly; his son Trey-his wife Anne Jelina; his step daughter Lisa Walton-her husband Ken-their 4 children-Brandon, Brady, Barrett, Briana-her husband Jacob Michael-their 2 children Callie and Cason; his step daughter Nicole Prettyman-her daughter Madison; his step son Richard Prettyman-his wife Beth-their 2 children Bennett and Samantha; his first wife Judy Vilcoq; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Acworth United Methodist Church, 4340 Collins Circle, Acworth, Georgia 30101 at 2 pm on February 13, 2020.
