Jim Hedrick
September 2, 1929 - October 16, 2020

Jim (Wapi) Hedrick passed away on October 16, 2020, at 91 years of age, at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Born on September 2, 1929, in Fort Worth, Texas, Jim was a graduate of Texas A&M University (Gig ‘em Aggies) and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Jim was a world traveler who lived in Africa for over 30 years. He travelled around the world with his wife and three children, seeing many wonders of the world like the Great Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the Parthenon, the floating markets in Thailand and Taiwan, to name a few. He climbed to the base camp of the Himalayas, climbed Mount Kenya and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro twice.

While in Africa, working as part of many U.S. AID programs, Jim helped areas in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Africa, with agricultural techniques to improve both crop and livestock yields. Jim was also a photographer for National Geographic, providing incredible photographs of African wildlife. He was an avid hunter and Safari Guide.

Jim is predeceased by his wife Loretta Mae Colleps Hedrick, his mother, Nannie Hedrick and father, Carl Hedrick. He is survived by his three children and son-in-law, Robert Hedrick, Jamie McClellan and her husband Dan McClellan, Michael Hedrick, and 10 Grandchildren.

An interment service will be held at a later date at the family’s private cemetery.
