Robert "Bob" Edgar Rhoades
November 10, 1938 - January 31, 2021

Robert Edgar Rhoades was born on November 10, 1938 in Taylor, Texas to Marjorie Lawhon and Robert C. Hughes. He was raised in Taylor by Robert W. “Dusty” Rhoades, with 2 younger brothers. Bob graduated from Taylor High School in 1957, went on to attend Texas A&M University where he was part of the Aggie Corp; he graduated in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Wagner, on March 21, 1964 at the First Presbyterian Church in Taylor. To this marriage came three children: Rebecca Rhoades Mazyrack, Bradley Thomas Rhoades and Heather Rhoades Richter. Bob retired as a Colonel from the Army in 1998 after dedicating himself to 32 years of service. He worked in the Banking Industry for 41 years where he achieved his degree in banking at Indiana University in 1991. He retired from banking in 2005 to spend time on the family farm. Bob was an involved member of the community and was awarded Round Rock Citizen of the Year in 1982. He was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Church of Coupland, has helped start numerous churches from the ground up, was a member of the Sertoma Club in Round Rock, East Williamson Higher Education Center, Manville Water Supply Corp, Texas Farm Bureau among many other various organizations he held dear to his heart. His favorite times were spent on The Rhoades Family Farm. Some of his favorite hobbies included gardening, hand tooling leatherwork and hunting, which continue to be treasured family activities.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie Lawhon Rhoades, Robert W. “Dusty” Rhoades and Robert C. Hughes.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Karen Wagner Rhoades; children, Becky Mazyrack of Round Rock, Brad (Kristin '95) Rhoades of Dripping Springs and Heather (Chad) Richter of Thrall; eight grandchildren, Robert Mazyrack, Hunter Mazyrack, Brodie Mazyrack, Colton Rhoades '24, Konnor Mazyrack, Dalton Richter, Kaylee Rhoades and Dax Richter; his brothers Ned Rhoades and Franklin “Bill” (Dixie) Rhoades all of Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a full military service at the graveside at the Taylor City Cemetery on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Peter’s Church in Coupland in his honor.
