Leo Robbins Padgett
1941 - 2020

Leo Robbins Padgett, age 78, passed away peacefully the evening of Monday, December 14, after a lengthy illness.

He was preceded in death by sons, Leo Robbins Padgett, Jr. and Justin Lee Padgett. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Padgett, his daughter, Christie Padgett Hirst and her husband John, grandsons Jordan Hirst and Jacob Hirst, sister Kay Peterson, brother Earl Padgett and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Leo was a product of West Texas; born in Lubbock on December 27, 1941. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1960. He was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University class of 64 where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets. After graduation, Leo served in the Marine Reserves and then went to work with his father at Padgett Construction Company. Some of their notable building projects include Texas Instruments, the Tech Medical School, the downtown Federal Building, First Methodist Church of Lubbock, St. Mary's Hospital and the Great Plains Life Building. He later founded West Texas Abatement, completing projects throughout the state.

Leo served as a member of the Board of Directors for Lubbock National Bank for 40 years, and as past president of the West Texas Chapter of the Associated General Contractors. He was a loyal member of the Southwest Rotary Club and proudly served as the chairman of the Scholarship Committee for Lubbock students attending Texas A&M. As founding members of Second Baptist Church of Lubbock, Leo and Elizabeth served faithfully for many years. Spending time with his son Justin, Leo derived a lot of pleasure from his leadership role with the Boy Scouts of America PAC 527. He and Elizabeth spent many hours volunteering with their daughter Christie in her library at Barbara Bush Middle School in San Antonio while their grandsons Jordan and Jacob were students there.

When asked how he was doing, Leo would almost always reply, "I'm living the dream," and he meant it, too. He loved riding his motorcycle with his childhood best friend, Jerry Casstevens, traveling the country with his family, and spending time with his grandkids. He was always up for an adventure. The family will be having a private graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Park. Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Second Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lubbock Food Bank or Meals on Wheels.
