William “Bill” Edward Vasen was called home by the Lord on the 20th of January 2021. He was 70 years old. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Edward G. Vasen.
He is survived by his loving mother Katherine Virginia Vasen; his sister Catherine Ann Elizondo and her husband David; his niece Karen Bogan and her family John Bogan and John Patrick Bogan; and his nephew and godson, Christopher J. Belmarez and his family Hillary M. Belmarez and Claire C. Belmarez.
As a young man, Bill’s interest in engineering and space led him to launch a rocket while he was at St. Augustine Catholic School in front of the entire student body. This interest drove him to graduate from Texas A & M University in 1972 with his undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering. Bill worked for Boeing helping to design and build shuttles that explored space. Still hungry for knowledge he went on to graduate from University of Houston with his Masters of Engineering in Aeronautics. He obtained his final graduate degree, an MBA, from the University of Houston Clear Lake. Combining these two interests, Bill began Vatek, through which he served businesses as an advisor and partner in their technology needs. Throughout his varied education and career, no matter where he went, he was forever an Aggie at heart.
In his free time he kept busy volunteering on many committees for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a Lifetime Member. At Mary Queen Catholic Church, his home parish, Bill volunteered his time each weekend as an Usher, and continued to volunteer as much as possible even after his diagnosis of cancer.
Bill was a lover of life and people; he never met a stranger. He loved to travel, ski, and be outdoors. He loved to garden, even if it meant waging war against the animals that loved to snack on his plants. Bill was always trying new recipes, and after winning awards for his brisket with his cook-team, you always listened with interest to his new food adventures.
Bill shared his love of movies and television with his family often, and he always loved our family holiday meals, which usually ended with falling asleep in the armchair and a football game on the television. Most of all, he loved his family, who will miss him dearly.
