William Duane Beever
March 2, 1938 – January 8, 2021

Bill Beever ’60, of Pearsall, TX, passed away on January 8, 2021, at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital in San Antonio of a rare autoimmune disease complicated by COVID-19.

Bill was born on March 2, 1938, to Charles and Florence Beever in Pearsall. He earned his degree in Civil Engineering at Texas A&M College, where he was a member of Company A-1. His senior year, he held the position of Executive Officer of Brigade Staff.

After graduating, Bill served a short stint in the military then moved to Houston to start his first job working as a Civil Engineer. He met Phyllis Mathiews while living in the same apartment complex in Houston. They married in 1965, then moved back to Pearsall to live near, and work with, Bill’s family. It was there that they raised their three children, Bethany ‘88, Britany ‘92, and Will ‘97.

Known for his gentle spirit and quick wit, Bill was passionate about hunting and fishing, Aggie football, politics, and flying his Cessna 210. And until the quarantine, he made daily trips to town to drink coffee with his friends. He later became an avid drone operator and dedicated himself to helping eradicate the feral hog population. Words cannot express how deeply his loss will be felt among those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bill is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Phyllis Beever of Pearsall; children Bethany '88 (Shan ‘88) Jenkins; Britany '92 (Brad ‘90) Just, and Will '97 (Meredith ‘98) Beever, as well as brother Steve Beever ’67 and sister-in-law Barbara Beever. He is also survived by nine grandchildren who will miss their Poppy terribly: Savannah ‘17, Sadie ‘20, and Truitt ’22 Jenkins; Peter ‘23, Matthew, and Samuel Just; and Trey, Garrett, and Emma Beever. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence Beever, brothers Jamie and Gus ‘57, and sister-in-law Susie Beever.

The family will hold a private graveside ceremony in Pearsall. Those wishing to honor Bill’s memory are encouraged to donate to First Baptist Church, 204 S. Walnut, Pearsall, TX 78061, or to the charity of their choice.
