Lewis Breeland
July 14, 1930 - January 16, 2021

Lewis Cass Breeland of Mart, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021. Arrangements will be made by Littlepage Funeral Home for a graveside service to be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 22, at Mart Cemetery, Mart, TX, with Rev. Jim Ingram officiating.

Lewis was born in Waco, Texas, on July 14, 1930, to Allan H. and Mabel (Strange) Breeland. He attended Mart public schools, graduating in 1947. After graduation, he worked for a farming company in South Texas until the Korean War began. He then served two years in the U.S. Army of which 18 months were spent in Japan. Upon his return, he enrolled in Texas A&M University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1957 and immediately began teaching Agricultural Science at LaVega High School. He retired from LaVega after teaching there 33 years to the day. There, he made many fond memories and long-lasting friends with both former students and colleagues. In 2019, he was honored as an inductee into the LaVega Hall of Fame Inaugural Class for the Educator's Award. He became a member of the First Baptist Church of Mart in 1942 and was very active there since his retirement.

He was an avid supporter of the Fightin' Texas Aggies and looked forward to Aggie Muster each year. Along with spending time with family, he could be found tending cattle with Brother on the family farm or "shooting the breeze" with his buddies at the Watson Feed Store. He truly enjoyed meeting people and could always seem to find a connection and once found, it was never forgotten. PaPa's quick wit, sense of humor, recollection of family stories, and giving spirit will certainly be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Allan H. Breeland, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Merlin Morrow.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Morrow; his son, David Breeland and wife, Pat; his grandchildren, Katie Kuretsch and husband, John, Alex Breeland and wife, Soyong, Laura Breeland, and Claire Breeland and fiance, Travis King; his great-grandchildren, Aidan, Emory, Bree, Ellie, and Zoey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Honorary pallbearers are the LaVega Class of '61 and the Men's Bible Class at First Baptist Church of Mart.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mart First Baptist Church, Mart Volunteer Fire Department, or the charity of your choice.
