Dr. John Gustavo Gomez
November 4, 1970 - January 15, 2021

John G. Gomez, MD, 50, of Argyle passed away on January 15, 2021 in Denton, Texas. He was born in Puerto Ordaz, Venenzuela on November 4, 1970 to Vivian Thompson and Jose Gomez.

He graduated from Rockwall High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he was known as an excellent neuroscience teaching assistant. He married Becky Kithcart on June 5, 1999 in San Antonio, TX. He completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, TX. He worked in many emergency departments around Texas including Texas Health Presbyterian Denton and Baylor Plano before opening Rapid Med Urgent Care in Highland Village, TX in October 2006. His passion was to provide quality medical care in convenient, comfortable environment. He enjoyed getting to know his patients and often went above and beyond to make sure they were well cared for. He was looking forward to expanding his clinic to his hometown of Argyle this winter.

He loved coaching his son Aaron in youth football and went on to serve as youth football commissioner, spending many Saturdays at the football field in Argyle. He also served as a team physician for the Flower Mound High School football team for 14 years. He enjoyed learning about history and spent many hours studying history with his son, Alex. He loved all animals and adopted many cats and dogs throughout his life. He loved traveling with his family and watching Texas Aggie football.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Gomez, sons; Alex and Aaron Gomez, his mother and stepfather, Vivian and Wylie McLain, father Jose Gomez, brothers, Brian Gomez and his wife, Ruthie, Jason Gomez and his wife, Kelly, sister-in-law, Karen Stoltenberg and her husband Wayne, father and mother in law, Dan and Betty Kithcart, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 6-8 pm at Flower Mound Family Funeral Home in Flower Mound, TX. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Crossroads Bible Church in Double Oak, TX at 10:00 am. Burial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Denton, TX following the funeral service. Masks will be required at all services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ranch Hands Rescue Human and Animal Sanctuary in Argyle, TX.

Further information regarding a youth football scholarship fund in John’s name will be forthcoming.
