April 25, 1928 - January 14, 2021

Husband, father, and patriarch Charles Edd Phillips, 92, formerly of Chesterfield, Missouri died peacefully in West Des Moines, Iowa on 1-14-2021.


A native of Texas, Mr. Phillips was born in Lott, Texas, son of Louis Edward Phillips and Mamie (née Mosley) Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, class of 1949. He remained a loyal Aggie his entire life.

Fae (nee Byrd) of Waco, Texas became his bride in the autumn of 1949 following his college graduation.

The young couple was soon called to duty in the United States Air Force where 1st Lieutenant Phillips served during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Phillips was employed by SBC with career advancements taking he and family to various positions throughout Kansas, Texas, and Missouri
over a 42 year career.

He and Fae called St.Louis, Missouri home from 1963 through 2018 when they relocated to West Des Moines, Iowa to be near to family. Charles was comfortably retired along side his wife at Morning Star Assisted Living in West Des Moines, Iowa until the time of his death.

The Phillips enjoyed extensive travel throughout Europe and beyond. They especially enjoyed long visits in London, England with son Charles and family.

Many happy memories were created at the family farm in the Ozark mountains of Southern Missouri.
Charles especially enjoyed trout fishing, restoration of his antique cabin, entertaining friends, and hostin
“Cousins Camp” each summer for his beloved grandchildren Tripp, Katina, Andrea, Brian and Sean.
He also endeavored in conservation activities on his land.

Leaving to mourn his death are wife of 71 years, Fae Phillips, eldest son Charles Phillips II (Annette) of West Des Moines, Iowa, David Phillips of Denver, Colorado, and Russell Phillips (Murphy) of Dallas, Texas.

Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy Mullin, and Mary Bogel, both of Waco, Texas. Precious grand daughter Katina Monson also predeceased Mr. Phillips in 2009.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Morning Star Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for the expert and loving care rendered to Charles.

Services are private with a memorial to be held in future in St.Louis, Missouri.
