Herbert "Hub" Davis Horton
February 12, 1930 ~ January 13, 2021 (age 90)
Herbert “Hub” Davis Horton left his earthly life at his home in Alamogordo on January 13, 2021 with his wife Bobby, son Mark, daughter-in-law Carol, and longtime care giver Maria by his side. Visitation will be held at Scenic Chapel on Monday, January 18th from 3-4 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Cloudcroft Church of Christ on Tuesday, January 19th at 10:30 am. Burial will take place at Parker Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
Hub was born in Mills County, TX on February 12, 1930 to Malcom Foster Horton & Berah Kennedy Horton. On February 21, 1953 he married Roberta “Bobby” Possiel in Ramsey, NJ while he was in the army.
Hub was truly a one of a kind person. He was 90 years old and saw the world change drastically in his lifetime. He was a modern Renaissance man. At a young age, he built home radios during WWII by taking old car radios and converting them. He played and loved all sports, going on to Texas A&M to play freshman basketball along with T. Boone Pickens. He was in the Corp of Cadets and was commissioned and served in the Army Security Agency. He was present for the first H Bomb test on Enewetak Atoll in the Pacific in 1952. After he married Bobby, his life got even more interesting. He would coach HS sports, be a principal, start several companies and become an amazing mechanical designer attaining 21 US Patents ranging from award winning automatic gates, to oilfield equipment, to forklifts and the world’s only automated chicken catcher. In between he built houses, developed land, flew airplanes, ranched, and raised four boys instilling hard work and love of God, family, country and Aggie Football! He also got into politics and ran for US Congress. He leaves behind a legacy of adventure and creativity to his kids, grand kids and great grand kids. I will finish with his favorite parting salutation: “Glad you got to see me!...”
Hub was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Malcom Allan Horton. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bobby Horton of the family home. He is also survived by his sister, Kathryn Holden of Tucson, AZ; his son Mark and wife Carol of Cloudcroft, NM; son Roger Horton and wife Sandy of Lyons, CO; son Allan and wife Denise of Rowlett, TX; son David and wife Rebekah of League City, TX; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project. 4899 Belfort Road, Ste 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
The Horton family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Scenic Chapel.
