Joseph Paul Collins, Class of ‘52
June 30, 1931 to November 24, 2020
Joe Collins was a kind, gentle, and loving man who passed after an extended illness. He graduated from Texas A&M College, Class of 1952 and entered a career as a Petroleum Engineer with Sun Oil Company. Joe made the decision to retire early to pursue his
life-long love of woodworking. He possessed this innate ability to turn any piece of wood into something beautiful and unique. True to his generous nature, he donated his many pieces of art rather than selling them. His generosity was also seen through his
many years as a Century Club member of the Association of Former Students. Some say Joe was aptly named after Saint Joseph, the carpenter.
At the time of his passing, Joe was 89 years old. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Collins and his son, J. Paul Collins, Jr. as well as his large extended family and many friends. He will be laid to rest with his late wife, Ruby Faye Collins in Plano.
A special thanks to his step-daughter, Bonni Lamey, and her husband Gary Lamey. They helped tirelessly in loving care for him in his declining health during his last years on this earth. It is during this time, Gary and Joe became very close, almost as a father
and son.
