Nathan Riley Hines, Lt.Col. USAF (Ret) '80
May 14, 1958 - December 28, 2020

Lt Col Nathan Hines, 62 of Newton, Texas went to be with the Lord December 28, 2020 due to Covid Pneumonia.

Nathan was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Clint and Betty Hines. After graduating Newton High school, Nathan attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets, squadron 12 “Trojan 12” and graduated with a bachelors in Journalism. Nathan was commissioned to the USAF where he served active duty and in the reserves. He retired after 28 years as a Lt Col.

Lt Col Hines served as a radar technician in AWACS aircraft in Osan Airbase, Korea and Tinker AFB. He was assigned to McDill AFB, David-Monthan AFB, and Nellis AFB. After 9/11 Lt Col Hines was called back to active duty and served as the Squadron services commander at Barksdale AFB. In 2002 Lt Col Hines was awarded the IMA Services Officer of the Year. He was then assigned to US European Command, Stuttgart, Germany working with NATO. Col Hines last assignment before retirement was Kirtland AFB.

Nathan owned and was the Executive Director of Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation in Newton, Texas. He was the Administrator for 1984-2019. Nathan was a remarkable philanthropist to his community helping many people and organizations in need.

Nathan was an ardent Texas A&M supporter. He was an endowed football season ticket holder since 1989. In the last 10 years he, along with his wife, attended all but 3 Aggie football games, home and away.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Clint Hines. He is survived by his loving wife, Shellie, his sons Maj. Robert Hines '08 (Kaitlyn), CPT Ross Hines '10 (Hannah '10), CPT Calvin Hines '11 (Becca), his bonus children Sara (Derek), Daniel (Alyssa), grandchildren, Rory, Gabe, Vivian, Hayden, Reese, Clara, Ryker, Ross, Ronnie, Rhett, Griffin and the soon to be 12th man Kendall, his brother David (Kim), niece Riley as well as nieces and nephews from his former wife Suzy.
